Alsdorf

Alsdorf's industrial past is represented by the former Anna mining complex and its redevelopment. After operations at Anna ended in 1992, the state acquired the cleared industrial site in 1995. Part of the former surface works now accommodates the Energeticon, which opened to visitors in 2014.

The museum uses the history of energy to connect the town's mining heritage with questions of energy transition. Its exhibition, approximately 700 metres long and arranged in around thirty stations, considers the movement from fossil fuels towards renewable energy. Interactive displays and guided visits support this educational purpose. The preserved industrial setting gives the subject a local context without separating the history of coal from the broader changes in how energy is produced and used.
