Bad Wörishofen’s identity is closely connected with Sebastian Kneipp, who arrived at the Dominican convent as confessor in 1855. The Sebastian Kneipp Museum occupies the convent’s east wing and presents his life and work through more than two thousand objects. Its displays introduce the town before his arrival, his daily surroundings and the five-part approach associated with his teaching.
Kneipp’s burial place is separate from the museum. His mausoleum stands in the town cemetery and was built in 1937, on the fortieth anniversary of his death, to a design by David Eberle. Inside is a black marble sarcophagus with white marble reliefs and a portrait of Kneipp. The convent museum and cemetery monument provide two distinct points of contact with his legacy: the setting of his work and the later commemoration of his life.
