Balingen’s Waagenmuseum connects the town with the history of weighing technology. Housed in the Zollernschloss, it displays roughly six hundred objects, from balance beams and historical weights to precision instruments and modern weighing systems. The collection includes material assembled by Wilhelm Kraut, owner of Bizerba, and was substantially enlarged with instruments from Kern & Sohn in 2005. Its displays also recall the eighteenth-century inventor Philipp Matthäus Hahn.
The town’s cultural programme extends beyond this technical heritage. The Stadthalle presents a broad range of performances, while the Zehntscheuer serves as the municipal museum, showing material from collections of cultural history, art and geology alongside temporary exhibitions. Together, these institutions connect industrial history with the visual and performing arts, giving Balingen several distinct settings for public cultural activity.
