Bonn

Bonn is the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven, born in December 1770 in the house at Bonngasse 20. The surviving building, with its eighteenth-century facade and older cellars, forms the historical centre of the Beethoven-Haus museum. Its collections include manuscripts, letters, instruments and personal objects that illuminate the composer's life and work. An enlarged permanent exhibition opened in 2019, with spaces for manuscripts, temporary displays and performances on historic keyboards. The Beethoven-Haus also maintains a research centre, library, publishing house and chamber music hall. In this part of central Bonn, close to the Rhine, musical remembrance is sustained through scholarship, exhibitions and live performance.
