Breda's Grote Kerk preserves an important part of the city's connection with the Nassau family. A stone church was recorded here in 1269, while the building developed over subsequent centuries into the large Gothic church seen today. Its Prince's Chapel and funerary monuments commemorate ancestors of the Dutch royal family. The monument to Engelbert II of Nassau and Cimburga of Baden also reflects the introduction of Renaissance artistic forms to the northern Netherlands. Alongside the preservation of this heritage, the church presents exhibitions and other public activities. Its Hillen organ forms a further strand of the building's cultural life and conservation work.
