Brixlegg's industrial history is closely tied to metalworking in the Tyrolean Inn valley. A copper and silver smelter was documented in 1463, and the settlement's economic development remained connected with regional mining for centuries. Four smelting works operated there by 1560. Later changes introduced electrolytic copper refining and the processing of metal scrap. The works were heavily damaged in 1945 and resumed smelting after reconstruction in 1947. Since 1977, Montanwerke Brixlegg has operated as a secondary copper smelter, using scrap and other recycled materials. This transition links the town's long metallurgical tradition with contemporary recovery and refining of metals.
