Cortona's museums and archaeological remains connect its hilltop setting with Etruscan and later artistic traditions. The MAEC preserves an Etruscan bronze chandelier and the Tabula Cortonensis, a bronze document concerning a vineyard transaction. Tombs in the surrounding area, including the monumental remains at Sodo, extend that history beyond the museum galleries. Within the town, the Diocesan Museum holds Fra Angelico's Annunciation and works by Luca Signorelli. Walls, cisterns and collections give different kinds of evidence a place in the same landscape. Cortona's past can be approached through objects and images as readily as through its streets and views.
