Davenport's cultural buildings give visual art and live music prominent places in the city. The Figge Art Museum opened its David Chipperfield-designed home in 2005, continuing a collection whose origins include Charles Ficke's gift in 1925. Nearby, the Adler Theatre preserves the Art Deco character of the RKO Orpheum, opened in 1931 and restored under its new name in 1986. It is one of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra's performance venues. These institutions offer different forms of continuity: a collection carried into a new building and a former cinema adapted for the demands of the concert and theatrical stage.
