Dreieich

Dreieich contains communities with distinct histories, and Dreieichenhain preserves a particularly visible medieval centre. Hayn received town rights in 1256, developing around a castle connected with the imperial forest. Timber-framed buildings and the castle remains give that history a setting that also accommodates the Burgfestspiele. Other parts of Dreieich developed through different functions: Götzenhain, for example, is associated with the agricultural supply of the castle around 1200. The modern city's identity draws on these separate local stories. Its historic landscape is consequently best approached as a group of related settlements, each contributing buildings, traditions and memories of its own.
