Düren

Düren presents the relationship between art and material at two neighbouring municipal museums. The Leopold-Hoesch-Museum, opened in 1905 and extended by Peter Kulka in 2010, holds works associated with Expressionism, classical modernism and postwar art. The Papiermuseum approaches a material closely connected with the city's industrial history. Its renewed presentation opened in 2018, combining objects, digital media and tactile experiences, including encounters with papermaking. Together, the museums connect finished artworks with the processes and substances that make images and documents possible. They offer a way to understand Düren through both the collection of art and the long practical history of paper.
