St. Leon-Rot plays world-class golf on former tobacco land. The Baden double village — St. Leon and Rot, joined in 1974 on the Kraichgau's edge — entered sporting history when its championship golf club, built with the patronage of SAP co-founder Dietmar Hopp, hosted the 2015 Solheim Cup: the women's transatlantic team match brought the game's global elite and worldwide broadcasts to these fairways, crowning a course that stages professional tournaments in serene Kurpfalz parkland.
The software neighbourhood explains the polish: SAP's Walldorf headquarters adjoins the municipality, and the company's St. Leon-Rot campus makes the village one of the region's largest employment addresses — glass office quads among asparagus fields, the Rhine plain's old crops of tobacco and hops remembered in local museums and festival names while the present earns in code.
Water supplies the leisure democracy: the St. Leoner See, the flooded gravel lake, runs one of Germany's popular waterski and wakeboard cable circuits, its beaches and campground filling all summer — a people's riviera beside the members' greens. Around, the villages keep Baden textures: the churches of St Leo and St Mauritius, Kerwe weekends, cycling levees toward Speyer's cathedral horizon. Fairways, server farms and wakeboards: St. Leon-Rot upgraded its fields without losing the sun.
