Slovenia

Ljubljana has had organised concert life since 1701, when the Academia Philharmonicorum was founded there; it was followed in 1794 by the Philharmonic Society. The present Slovenian Philharmonic was re-established in 1947 and gave its first concert in January 1948. The opera house in Ljubljana was built in 1892, and the Slovene National Theatres in Ljubljana and Maribor serve as the national opera and ballet houses. Slovenian composers include Jacobus Gallus, Marij Kogoj, Slavko Osterc and Vinko Globokar. The Ljubljana Festival dates from 1953.
