The Brucknerhaus in Linz opened on 23 March 1974 with the Vienna Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan. Built between 1969 and 1973, the concert house became closely associated with the International Bruckner Festival and the musical life of the Danube city. Its history also intersects with the Linzer Klangwolke: the first event in 1979 brought Bruckner’s Eighth Symphony into the surrounding public space through a recording by the Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Bernard Haitink. A replacement organ was inaugurated in 2018 while the original façade was retained. The building’s fiftieth anniversary in 2024 was marked by the Vienna Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta, returning to Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony, the work heard at the opening.
