Children’s Philharmonic Choir

Founded in 2017 as an ensemble of the Sofia Philharmonic, the Children's Philharmonic Choir gathers singers between six and nineteen, the older voices forming a separate group with a repertoire chosen for them. Slavil Dimitrov, who created the choir, directs it, with Milena Yatsino as chorus master. It sings on its own account and, more often, supplies the treble line an orchestra needs: Britten's 'Missa brevis in D', Orff's 'Carmina Burana', Mahler's Eighth Symphony, the Jenkins 'Mass for Peace'. Bringing children into a professional orchestra's ordinary season, rather than into a separate children's series, is the whole point of it.
