Chitalishte "Saglasie 1869" (Pleven)

The Pleven chitalishte carries 1869 in its name, the year it was founded, and works today as the town's main civic hall rather than as a concert house alone. Its large auditorium is named after Emil Dimitrov, the singer born in Pleven, and a foyer takes the smaller events. The Pleven Philharmonic plays its concerts there; the same rooms have held the national Gena Dimitrova competition for young opera singers, concerts by participants in the Mozarteum masterclasses, book presentations and charity evenings — a mixed calendar in which music is one strand among several.
