Thursdays and Sundays in full term, this choir sings the services in the chapel of Christ's College, a foundation of 1505. Boys' voices carried the upper parts for most of its history; women from other colleges were admitted before Christ's itself became co-educational in 1979, and the ensemble is now a mixed-voice one, its singers auditioned and given vocal training at the College's expense. The repertoire runs from fifteenth-century polyphony to living composers, with a standing commitment to music by women, recorded on disc and heard in the university-wide Minerva Festival; Mozart, Bach, Scarlatti, Handel, Britten and Fauré have furnished the larger works. Feasts, weddings, the Christmas and Passiontide services and alumni gatherings fill the rest of the year, and tours have taken the choir to Canada, the United States, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. David Rowland has served as Director of Music, with organ scholars beside him.
