Congress Union Celle began as the Union, a municipal entertainment and assembly complex completed in November 1909. The original building combined a theatre and concert hall with a restaurant, smaller meeting rooms and an extensive concert garden. From 1910 its programme included regular visiting theatre and classical music, while parts of the premises served as a hospital during the First World War. Subsequent development broadened its role as an event and congress venue. Its centenary in November 2009 was marked by a Prague Philharmonia concert conducted by Jakub Hrůša with violinist Sophia Jaffé. The preserved historic spaces remain part of the institution’s identity.
