Daejeon Arts Center opened on 1 October 2003 in the city’s Seo-gu district. Alongside visiting performances, the centre develops its own opera and theatre productions and collaborates with regional partners. Music education forms a substantial part of its activity through the Music Academy, school concerts and backstage programmes. Its YODJAC initiative gives young participants orchestral experience, while SNAC recitals provide a platform for emerging musicians. The institution thus combines public performance with training and opportunities for local artists. Home to the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra and to the theatre and choral companies of a city of one and a half million, this arts complex is the principal stage of South Korea's science capital. Its halls carry symphonic seasons, opera and dance, and visiting orchestras on the East Asian touring circuit — Dvořák's "New World" Symphony among the works heard there.
