Danacord is a Danish classical record label founded in Copenhagen in 1979 by Jesper Buhl. Its catalogue combines new recordings with historical reissues, with a particular emphasis on Danish composers and performers. Its recording projects include the complete symphonies of Louis Glass, alongside Danish chamber and piano music. The Glass cycle was recorded by the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra under Nayden Todorov and reissued as a four-disc collection. Other series document pianists Victor Schiøler and the Rarities of Piano Music festival at Husum. Since 1979 this independent Copenhagen label has done the patient work that Danish music needed: recording the Nordic repertoire that larger companies passed over, and reissuing the historic Danish performers whose broadcasts and 78s would otherwise have gone unheard. Its catalogue is a national archive as much as a commercial list. Among its sustained projects is the symphonic music of Louis Glass, the Copenhagen composer whose large post-Romantic scores had waited the better part of a century for a hearing on record.
