Completed between 1927 and 1930 to designs by Theodor Rieve and Paul Ziegler, Flensburg's assembly and concert house belongs to the brick expressionism of the Weimar years, its dark masonry softened by the plainer geometry of the Neue Sachlichkeit. It remains the largest events building in this Baltic port at the Danish border. The Schleswig-Holstein Symphony Orchestra plays its Flensburg concerts here, the city's Bach Choir sings here, and the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival counts the house among its venues each summer. A former library wing now shelters film and broadcasting companies.
