Die Glocke

Die Glocke in Bremen opened in 1928, replacing the Künstlerverein concert hall destroyed by fire in 1915. The site had already served musical purposes since the nineteenth century, when the former chapter house was converted into a concert room. After the Second World War the largely intact building was used as an American military club and cinema before returning to civic and concert activity. A major renovation between 1995 and 1997 preserved much of the historic fabric while adapting the building to modern performance requirements. Reopened on 31 January 1997, Die Glocke combines visiting classical artists with a broader programme and its own concert series.
