Ulrich Kohlleppel aligned his building of 1988 with the baroque street grid of Ludwigsburg and turned its foyer front towards the palace, so that the town's principal event house answers the Residenzschloss across the park. It takes up to three thousand people, depending on how the hall is laid out. Its stage machinery and lighting were considered advanced enough that they were cited when the state heritage authority listed the building as a Kulturdenkmal in 2024 — early recognition for a work of the late twentieth century, and a sign of how thoroughly the design has held up.
