Haskovo Municipality

Haskovo is the birthplace of the violinist Nedyalka Simeonova, and since 1971 the town has held annual music days in her name; the municipality has since added an international violin competition under the same name. Its culture department distributes the state subsidy across the district's chitalishta, runs a Municipal Culture Fund for local projects and sets the annual cultural calendar the town's halls work to. Visiting orchestras appear in that calendar — the Sofia Philharmonic played in Haskovo in October 2004 at the municipality's invitation.
