Roman columns and stucco went up on the Kronsforder Allee in 1875, when Lübeck built itself a pillared hall for three thousand people and named it the Colosseum. It stood beside the Freundschaft inn, whose mirrored ballroom of 1866 it comfortably outgrew. War damage forced a rebuilding, completed in 1959. Under an artistic direction established in 2010 the hall has become one of the busiest stages in the city, with a mixed year of concerts, comedy and touring shows; vocal galas such as Die Nacht der 5 Tenöre belong to that mixture.
