Messe Husum developed from the Husumer Wirtschaftsgesellschaft, founded in 1995 by local business interests. The exhibition facilities expanded during the following years, and the NordseeCongressCentrum opened in 2010. In 2013 the operator adopted the name Messe Husum & Congress. The complex combines exhibition halls with conference and performance spaces; the congress centre includes a stage and adaptable seating for cultural events. This dual function allows trade fairs, meetings and concerts to take place within the same venue complex. Husum, Theodor Storm's grey town by the sea, holds its exhibition and congress centre on the North Frisian coast of Schleswig-Holstein, where trade fairs for wind energy and agriculture occupy most of the year. The halls are large, plain and adaptable, and are cleared from time to time for concerts on a scale no other room in the district could take.
