Neues Theater

Emden, the East Frisian port on the Dollart, has no resident opera company; its Neues Theater is a receiving house, and its season is assembled from what tours into the far north-west of Germany — drama, concerts and staged opera in turn. Puccini's Turandot has been among the productions brought there, an opera of outsized demands arriving in a town whose musical life depends on such visits.
