The National Museum of Education in Gabrovo preserves the history of Bulgarian schooling through documents, photographs, textbooks and teaching objects. It continues the work of the State School Museum established in Sofia in 1905. Its permanent exhibition in the Aprilov High School building opened in 1986. Reconstructed classrooms and an early kindergarten bring different stages of educational life into view, while research, exhibitions and educational programmes connect the collection with teachers, pupils and visitors. Gabrovo, strung along the Yantra beneath the Shipka pass, has held a particular place in Bulgarian education since the country's first secular school opened there in 1835, and the town's older civic buildings still carry that inheritance. The hall serves Gabrovo's chamber concerts; Mozart's Divertimento in F major, K. 138, has been among the works played in it.
