History

Oper an der Burg is the open-air opera given in the grounds of Burg Brüggen, the thirteenth-century moated castle that gives this Lower Rhine municipality its official title of Burggemeinde. Performances are set against the surviving palas, corner tower and brick gatehouse in high summer, with the municipality itself among the organisers; Verdi's Rigoletto was staged there in August 2014.
