The Orchestra Sinfonica Città di Grosseto was founded in 1994 by the municipality in partnership with three local musical associations. Its work spans symphonic concerts, opera and the finals of Grosseto's Scriabin International Piano Competition, which it has accompanied since 2000. It performed Domenico Bartolucci's oratorios under the composer's direction and made a live recording of La tempesta sul lago in 2002. Overseas engagements have taken it to Romania, Greece, Germany, France and Austria, including Vienna's Musikverein in 2010. A 2017 production of Tosca, co-produced with Fondazione Grosseto Cultura, helped restore regular opera performances to the city's programme. Grosseto, the walled town at the centre of the Tuscan Maremma, keeps a civic symphony orchestra. Its calendar includes the Scriabin International Piano Competition, held in the city and long since past its twentieth edition, where the orchestra takes on the accompanying role.
