Orquesta Sinfónica de Yucatán

The Orquesta Sinfonica de Yucatan began its first season in Merida in February 2004 under Juan Felipe Molano, giving its inaugural concert at the Teatro Peon Contreras on 27 February. The ensemble emerged from cooperation between the state government and a civic patronage association established in 2001. In 2009 they created FIGAROSY, a trust responsible for the orchestra's administration and continuity. Alongside symphonic concerts, the orchestra has participated in opera and ballet productions, with Mexican and Yucatecan music forming part of its repertoire. Stravinsky's Firebird is among the scores it has taken on.
