The Paderhalle in central Paderborn opened in 1981 as a venue for performances and public events. Its theatre and concert hall can be arranged with up to 954 seats, while alternative layouts accommodate banquets, meetings and standing audiences. A 250-square-metre main stage is supported by side and rear stages and a movable orchestra pit designed for approximately sixty-five musicians. This equipment permits touring opera, ballet, theatre and concerts alongside the hall's conference use. Foyers provide additional space for receptions and combined events. The building's variable seating and stage arrangements are central to its function as a shared cultural and civic venue. Built in 1981 and standing on the Heiersmauer in the centre of Paderborn, the Paderhalle is the largest cultural building in the town and the biggest stage in its region. Some two hundred events a year pass across it — orchestral concerts, opera and ballet on tour, musical theatre, cabaret, children's programmes — drawing well over a hundred thousand visitors annually. The interior is designed to be reconfigured, so the same room serves a recital, a banquet and a conference in the same week.
