The Pauluskirche stands on the Wörth island in the Nahe at the centre of Bad Kreuznach. Its medieval predecessor was built between 1311 and 1332, with a Gothic choir added after 1400. Fire during the war of 1689 destroyed much of the church. The tower and nave were rebuilt between 1768 and 1781 under Philipp Heinrich Hellermann, and the Pauluskirche name dates from the rededication in 1781. The building serves the Protestant congregation and also accommodates musical performances. Bad Kreuznach, the spa town on the Nahe where the river runs beneath houses built on a bridge, keeps its Protestant parish church as one of the few interiors in the town large enough for a full concert audience. Choral and vocal programmes are given under its vaulting through the year. The building serves its congregation first.
