The Plovdiv Boys’ Choir was founded by Stefka Blagoeva in 1975 and developed into a continuing programme of choral education for children and young people. It operates within Plovdiv’s Municipal Children’s Complex and brings together several ensembles at different stages of musical development. Generations of singers have passed through its rehearsals and performances; conductor Krastin Nastev is among its former members. The choir’s work combines vocal training, ensemble discipline and public concerts. Its fiftieth-anniversary season in 2026 brought renewed attention to the contributions of conductors Milka Toledova and Borislava Blagoeva and pianist Yulia Petrova. Boy trebles are a specialised resource in any opera city, and Plovdiv keeps a choir that supplies them. Tosca is a case in point: Puccini opens his third act at dawn with a shepherd boy singing offstage, and the ensemble has taken part in performances of the work. Behind such appearances lies the ordinary business of a boys' choir — sight-singing, breath, blend, the slow schooling of voices against the deadline of a breaking one.
