Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra

Tadeusz Szeligowski pressed for a philharmonic in Poznań after the war and got one: the first concert was given on 10 November 1947 under Stanisław Wisłocki, and the orchestra now bears Szeligowski's name. It plays in the Aula of Adam Mickiewicz University, reckoned among the best-sounding rooms in Poland. Since 1952 it has been the orchestra of the International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition, an association that has placed it beside several generations of violinists at the start of their careers; it also serves Poznań Spring, the contemporary music festival Szeligowski founded. Jerzy Katlewicz, Robert Satanowski and Grzegorz Nowak are among its former chief conductors, and Łukasz Borowicz has directed it since the 2021–22 season.
