Rosenburg Castle stands above the River Kamp in Lower Austria. Originating in the twelfth century, it was extensively rebuilt by Sebastian Grabner in 1593–97 as a Renaissance residence. Vinzenz Muschinger later added the large tournament courtyard. The Hoyos family acquired the property in 1681, and nineteenth-century restoration secured its survival after fires and neglect. The castle now combines museum displays and historic interiors with gardens, falconry demonstrations and public events, including concerts in its grounds. Jousting is still staged in the arcaded tournament courtyard of the Rosenburg, a castle rebuilt in Renaissance form on a spur above the Kamp valley in Lower Austria, and birds of prey are flown there for visitors through the season. The same setting takes music in the warmer months, when concerts and opera are given within the walls; Nabucco has been performed there.
