Höxter stands on the upper Weser, a half-timbered town whose fame rests on the Carolingian abbey of Corvey just outside it, the westwork of which carries UNESCO World Heritage status. The Stadthalle is the civic counterweight to all that antiquity: the hall the town keeps for concerts, touring productions, balls and public occasions, and the largest room in the district for an audience that wants music rather than a church.
