The Romanian National Radio Orchestra was founded in Bucharest in 1928 under Mihail Jora, alongside the beginnings of Romanian radio broadcasting. Public concerts followed in 1932. Known at different stages as the Radio Orchestra and Radio Symphony Orchestra, it developed both a concert repertoire and a recorded catalogue for transmission. Its home is Sala Radio, and its programmes range from Baroque works to contemporary music, with sustained attention to Romanian composers. The ensemble has also appeared at the George Enescu and RadiRo festivals and presents large vocal-orchestral works and opera in concert. Romanian broadcasting began in 1928, and the musical formations of the public broadcaster date from that first year — which makes this orchestra one of the oldest continuously working ensembles in the country. It plays at Sala Radio in Bucharest. Verdi's Stiffelio has been among the works it has presented in that form.
