The Union of Bulgarian Composers goes back to 24 January 1933, when Pancho Vladigerov, Petko Staynov, Dimitar Nenov, Vesselin Stoyanov, Andrey Stoyanov, Lyubomir Pipkov, Asen Dimitrov and Tsanko Tsankov met in the House of Art and Print in Sofia under Andrey Stoyanov's chairmanship, drew up a statute and elected a board; the founding protocol was confirmed by the Ministry of the Interior on 6 February 1933. Renamed in 1947 and again in 1954, it has carried its present name since then, with Pipkov, Filip Kutev, Dimitar Petkov, Alexander Raychev, Parashkev Hadjiev, Lazar Nikolov, Victor Chuchkov, Velislav Zaimov and Petar Lyondev at its head in turn. Among the concerts it has organised is Viva Rossini in Bulgaria Hall on 29 February 2000, an all-Rossini bill opening with the overture to Il barbiere di Siviglia and drawing on Victor Chuchkov, Ivan Balsamadjiev, Petya Ivanova, Tsvetelina Maldjanska, Alexander Tekeliev Jr., Alexander Mutafchiyski and Rumen Dobrev.
