Salt made Bad Kreuznach. The graduation towers along the Nahe still trickle brine down walls of blackthorn twigs, throwing off the salt haze the town has sold as a cure since the nineteenth century, and the Schlosspark lies on the island beside them, laid out around what survives of the old castle grounds. Its lawns hold concerts through the warm months. A few minutes away stand the Brückenhäuser, the medieval houses built directly on the bridge over the river — one of the very few such rows left in Europe.
