The Seebühne in Bad Staffelstein is an outdoor performance space built around a stage island in the park lake. Also known as the Millenium-Seebühne, it has almost one thousand spectator places facing the island. The stage forms part of the spa town’s summer cultural programme and is listed among the venues of the Fränkischer Theatersommer. Regional bands give free weekend spa concerts during the season from early May to late September. The venue also accommodates choral performances; its acoustic conditions allow many choirs to perform without electronic amplification. Between Banz Abbey on one bank and Balthasar Neumann's pilgrimage church of Vierzehnheiligen on the other, Bad Staffelstein occupies one of the most painted stretches of the Upper Main. The town is a thermal spa, its brine drawn from far beneath the Staffelberg. Its lakeside stage carries the summer season — opera in the open, popular programmes on warm nights, the Franconian hills going dark behind the water while the music runs on.
