The Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church — Selbständige Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche, or SELK — is a confessional free church that took its present form in 1972 from a group of older independent Lutheran bodies. Its congregations are small and scattered widely across Germany, and their halls double as rooms for music: hymnody first of all, then organ and chamber playing, and in a village such as this whatever visiting musicians can be persuaded to bring.
