Sofia Ballet

Bulgaria's first private classical ballet company was set up to work abroad: its seasons are tours, not a home repertoire. The dancers come from the ranks of eastern European houses — soloists of the Sofia National Opera and Ballet and of the Bucharest National Opera among them — and the productions hold to the Russian line of Petipa, Ivanov, Gorsky and Vainonen: Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Don Quixote, La Bayadère, Le Corsaire. The company has played across Europe and, more recently, in Asia and the United Arab Emirates; December 2010 brought The Nutcracker to Reggio Calabria.
