Sofia Municipality

The capital's city government pays for culture in Sofia through two channels: the Calendar of Cultural Events, an annual competitive programme its Culture Directorate opens to festivals and independent projects, and its own municipal cultural institutes and summer series. Two of those series take orchestras out of the halls — Opera na Ploshtada in the centre of the city and Muzi na Vodata at Lake Pancharevo, which reached a seventh edition in 2026. Open-air opera galas and ball programmes in the July and August heat belong to that same summer strand.
