The Teatro Città della Notte is a theatre and congress auditorium in the Augusta–Melilli area of eastern Sicily. Part of the larger Città della Notte entertainment complex, it accommodates close to one thousand spectators. Its programme embraces professional touring productions and local amateur theatre, dance, classical music and jazz. Stage wings, dressing rooms and projection facilities support this variety of uses. Performers associated with its theatre programme include Enrico Brignano, Teresa Mannino, Pino Insegno and the Sicilian actors Enrico Guarneri, Tuccio Musumeci and Pippo Pattavina. The surrounding complex also incorporates cinema, hospitality and restaurant facilities. Augusta stands on an island off the Sicilian coast, cut from the mainland in the sixteenth century and rebuilt in the late-Baroque manner of the Val di Noto after the earthquake of 1693; Spanish bastions still guard its approaches. Against that setting the Teatro Città della Notte serves the town as a stage for concerts and staged opera, on the pattern of Sicilian provincial seasons — dependent on visiting companies, and on audiences willing to sit out a long evening.
