Thessaloniki Concert Hall occupies a waterfront site near the Posidonio sports centre. Its first building opened in 2000 on land provided by the Greek state, with national and European funding supporting the project. The main auditorium seats 1,400 and accommodates orchestral concerts, opera and ballet, while the complex also hosts conferences and exhibitions. A second building, M2, was designed by Arata Isozaki. Its glass and steel construction contrasts with the earlier building and contains the Emilios Riadis and Maurice Saltiel halls. Together the two buildings provide differently scaled spaces for musical performance and other public events on the city's seafront.
