Trakart is a museum and cultural centre in Plovdiv, arranged around the preserved mosaics of the late-antique House of Eirene. It occupies the archaeological underpass on Tsar Boris III Obedinitel Boulevard. Alongside the archaeological remains, its displays include a collection tracing the development of glass vessels from the fifth century BC to the fourth century AD. A chamber hall with about 120 seats accommodates concerts, theatrical performances, lectures and exhibitions. The centre brings live performance into the setting of an archaeological site, while maintaining a separate programme of museum and educational activities. Beneath a Plovdiv boulevard, in the underpass near the Roman stadium, lies the floor of a late-antique residence with its mosaics intact; the Trakart centre was built around them. The hall attached to the museum takes chamber concerts, recitals and exhibitions, with the audience seated a few metres from the tesserae. Bulgarian programmes and early music sit particularly well in it, and the space doubles through the year as a gallery.
