The Stadthalle Singen is a municipal cultural and conference venue behind the town hall, adjoining the park landscape created for the 2000 state garden show. Its construction followed a long civic campaign, supported by a local association that contributed half a million euros. The municipal council approved the project in 2004, and construction began in April 2005. The building opened in September 2007, with the public celebration attracting approximately twenty thousand visitors. Designed to provide a large hall for the town and the surrounding region, it accommodates entertainment, civic gatherings and business events. Under the volcanic cone of the Hohentwiel, crowned by one of the largest fortress ruins in Germany, Singen grew into an industrial town on the road between Lake Constance and the Black Forest. The Stadthalle is where it gathers — concerts, congresses, festivities, and the touring shows that stop between Zurich and Stuttgart. For much of the surrounding Hegau, it is the nearest hall of any size.
