History

Plovdiv has kept an unusual confessional variety for a Bulgarian city — Orthodox, Catholic of both rites, Armenian, Jewish and Muslim communities have lived within a few streets of one another for generations — and the Uniate church serves the Eastern-rite Catholics among them. Like many Bulgarian churches it opens its nave to music from time to time, chiefly sacred and baroque repertoire suited to the building.
