The Vogtlandhalle in Greiz was completed in 2011 to designs by arch42 of Erfurt. Commissioned by the city, it was planned for spoken and musical theatre, concerts, dance and public celebrations. Its adaptable main hall provides 796 seats or space for 1,000 standing spectators. Retractable seating and stage machinery allow the foyer, auditorium, stage and backstage area to form a continuous level surface when required. A concert enclosure and adjustable acoustic equipment support its use for orchestral performance. Greiz, a Thuringian town on the White Elster known for its landscape park and summer palace, keeps a modern multi-purpose hall as its principal concert room. The Vogtland Philharmonie, which divides its life between Greiz and Reichenbach, plays there regularly; the building also takes conferences, balls, touring shows and the town's civic occasions, the ordinary mixed diet of a regional hall in eastern Germany.
