Waidhofener Kirchenchor & Orchester

Church music in Waidhofen an der Ybbs is carried, as in many Austrian market towns, by a parish choir singing with an orchestra of local players. Their year turns on the calendar rather than a season: mass settings at Easter and Christmas and on the great feasts, in the Viennese classical tradition that remains the natural repertory of such bodies. The scale is modest, the continuity long, and much of Austria's musical literacy is grounded here.
